Episode 4 The Gods 16:53 minutes
Mystical and otherworldly,The Gods calls on perhaps the
most eclectic and dense assortment of sounds of any episode in the opera,
juxtaposing frail humanity with potent Godhood. Language suffers an almost
complete breakdown in the mouths of the Gods; it cannot help us understand
their ways. By the end of the episode, however, the Gods have revealed
themselves as made of the same clay as the humans over whose lives they
have dominion, and music teaches us to understand and communicate again.
