Episode 3 Burninghiding17:19 minutes
Burninghiding develops the themes, both musical and philosophical,
that have been introduced in the earlier movements. The most operatic
of the episodes, Burninghiding sees a high point in the dramatic tension.
Language is seen as a form of power: while the victims speak in fractured,
impassioned phrases, the warriors grab control of their story and, paradoxically,
by making it intelligible, make it meaningless. Conflict between groups
(refugees and warriors) resolves once both sides are able to step outside
of their group identities. Opening with a burst of violence, by the end
of the episode, harmony and unison have been restored.
